Twilight director says she would cast Jacob Elordi and Jenna Ortega as Edward and Bella today

Catherine Hardwicke explained how the Euphoria and Wednesday stars would be perfect.

The director of the first Twilight film has revealed who she would pick for Edward and Bella if the franchise was made today.

It's safe to say Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's lives were never the same once they were cast as the iconic love duo in the film adaptation.

However, it's an interesting discussion who would be in the running for the two roles if the Twilight franchise was only being produced in the 2020s.

Catherine Hardwicke was the filmmaker behind the 2008 movie that kicked off the five-film franchise.

During a chat with Josh Horowitz on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Jacob Elordi's name was high on the list of people to play Edward Cullen.

"Oh, that would be perfect," Hardwicke said in response to the Australian actor being cast as the male lead.

"Jacob Elordi...I mean, he's amazing. He probably would be Edward today. Exactly."

Catherine also said Jenna Ortega would also be a good fit to play Bella Swan considering she has nailed roles in Wednesday and Scream.

But there's a big question mark over whether Elordi would have wanted to be involved in a franchise as big as Twilight.

His career was launched with 2019's The Kissing Booth and he recently revealed that he hated making it and the sequel.

In an interview with GQ, the Australian star branded the films 'ridiculous'.

"They're not universal. They're an escape," he said.

Elordi explained that now he's done The Kissing Booth, he's never doing the Hollywood pathway of doing 'one for them' and then a movie for himself as an actor.

He says: "It can become 15 for them, none for you. You have no original ideas and you’re dead inside. So it’s a fine dance."

After the Twilight franchise was done, Robert said it was a very hectic experience being everyone's favorite vampire.

In an interview with USA Today back in 2019, he revealed that fans these days were a little bit more relaxed if they saw him in the street compared to when the films came out.

"It's lovely now that the mania is not so intense," he explained.

"People come up [to me] and just have very fond memories of it. It's a really sweet thing. I think the only scary part was right in the thick of it all, when it was very, very intense.

"Now the intensity has died down and it's just very warm memories."
