Obi-Wan Kenobi: First Look At Darth Vader In The New Disney+ Series

Darth Vader is set to return in the Disney+ series later this year.

The first official look at Darth Vader in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series has been revealed.

Kenobi isn't the only iconic Star Wars character set to make a comeback later this year, as the villainous Sith Lord will also be appearing in the Disney+ series when it drops on the streaming service on May 25.

Hayden Christensen is set to reprise his role as Vader 20 years after he first ventured to the dark side in the Star Wars prequel films Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

The upcoming series will see Christensen reunite with Ewan McGregor, who will of course be back to star as Kenobi, while Joel Edgerton will also be making a comeback as Uncle Owen.

Though perhaps the most highly anticipated, Vader will not be the only Imperial villain to contend with in the series as Obi-Wan Kenobi will also introduce a new, force-sensitive Inquisitor named Reva, played by Moses Ingram.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Ingram described her character as sharing a 'common dark-side goal' with Vader and the Grand Inquisitor, who is also featured in the series.

She commented: 'They're on the same team.'

The first-look image of Vader shows the villain cast in shadow, with only the outline of his iconic cloak and helmet visible.

Check it out below:

The character appears to be emerging from his meditation chamber in the image; the place where he is able to remove his helmet. The inclusion of this suggests there may be the opportunity to see him without his mask in the upcoming series, but Christensen, unfortunately, has refused to confirm or deny this, telling EW: 'I wish I could tell you. I'm sworn to secrecy.'

The actor has at least revealed that the series will depict 'a very powerful Vader', in contrast to Obi-Wan who begins his new chapter 'rather broken, and faithless, and beaten, somewhat given up', according to McGregor.

Series writer Joby Harold promised that Vader will be sure to have a big influence in the series as he revealed, 'His shadow is cast across so much of what we do.'

Harold continued: 'And the degree of his proximity to that shadow is something that we'll discover. But he is very much a part of the show emotionally for Obi-Wan, and possibly beyond that as well.'

Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on Disney+ on May 25.
