Obi-Wan Kenobi: New Trailer Teases Duel Of The Fates With Darth Vader

May the 4th be with you: soon, Obi-Wan Kenobi will return to fight Darth Vader.

May the 4th be with you: a brand-new Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer has been released to commemorate Star Wars Day.

In 1999, George Lucas kicked off his controversial prequel trilogy with The Phantom Menace. Pod-racing, Darth Maul, young Anakin: it was a definitive moviegoing experience for fans young and old, if not a wholly successful one.

The galaxy far, far away is bigger than ever. Including the spin-offs, there's been 11 films, 17 shows and more than 100 video games (seriously, when are we getting a Force Unleashed movie?) - but soon, an iconic hero will return.

Check out the newest trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi below:

Obi-Wan Kenobi, a new series due to arrive on Disney+, marks the comeback of Ewan McGregor as the titular Jedi, in the fallout of Revenge of the Sith.

The official synopsis reads: "During the reign of the Galactic Empire, former Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi embarks on a crucial mission. Kenobi must confront allies turned enemies and face the wrath of the Empire."

Speaking to Men's Journal, McGregor noted how the last time we saw Obi-Wan, 'the Jedi Order was falling apart'.

He said: "It will be interesting to take a character we know in a way and show him – well, his arc will be quite interesting, I think, dealing with the fact that all the Jedi were slaughtered with the end of Episode III. It's quite something to get over."

In an earlier statement, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed: "Obi-Wan Kenobi begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Revenge of the Sith, where he faced his greatest defeat: the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned-evil-Sith-Lord, Darth Vader.

"Our fans will be thrilled that Hayden Christensen will be returning in the role of Darth Vader. This will be the rematch of the century."

Christensen's return to perhaps the most famous villain in movie history is incredibly exciting. In preparation, he binged all of the Star Wars movies, as well as The Clone Wars and Rebels shows.

As per Entertainment Weekly, he said: They did a lot with these characters in those shows. And they did further explore the relationship.

"There was interesting stuff there to learn about. It was great fun getting to go back and re-immerse yourself in this world that just continues to grow and become more and more vast."

Another Duel of the Fates is upon us: Obi-Wan Kenobi comes to Disney+ on 27 May.
