One Of The 2010s' Most Over-The-Top Horror Films Is Now On Netflix

The film has already made its way to Netflix's top 10 list

The year is 2010; you've just bought a box of popcorn and a large coke, and you're preparing to don a pair of 3D glasses ready for a film that will undoubtedly be outrageously ridiculous. Life is good.

There are a few movies out there that fit this description, and more often than not they involve some kind of natural disaster combined with an entirely exaggerated wild animal.

Think Sharknado, Zombeavers and Lavalantula, all of which a) yes, really exist, and b) speak for themselves.

Unsurprisingly Piranha is no different, and those looking to enjoy an evening laughing at the terror of the characters will be over the moon to know that it's now available on Netflix.

See the chaos unfold below:

Branded as a horror-comedy, Piranha lays out what happens when a sudden underwater earthquake causes a crack in the ground and sets free hundreds of prehistoric man-eating fish, sparking terror among the college students who are at the lake enjoying their spring break.

It's actually a remake of the 1978 film of the same name, and the over-the-top drama quickly becomes clear in the trailer, when a diver sent to explore a newly-opened underwater crevice finds himself surrounded by the man-eating fish.

It's got unsuspecting victims in the form of the students, an electric saw-wielding police officer and fish who will stop at nothing to devour everything that moves. What more could you want?

Fans are naturally very excited to be able to stream the movie on demand now that it's arrived on Netflix, with one Twitter user writing: "This is not a drill…the fantastic film from 2010 #Piranha is finally on Netflix!!! It’s brutal, gory, funny, Kelly Brook is awesome and it’s f**king ace. Check it out!"

Another commented: "Thank you to whoever at Netflix made the choice to put the gem that is the Piranha remake on."

Fans are wasting no time in settling in for a viewing, so much so that Piranha has already made it in to Netflix's top 10 UK movies.

The film might not be the kind you'd watch in a particularly serious manner, but it's actually achieved a pretty impressive score of 74 percent on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer. It's sequel however, Piranha 3DD, wasn't met quite so favourably.

Unfortunately the film isn't available in the 3D glory of its original release, but I don't doubt for a minute that it will be chaotic enough without the fish quite literally leaping out at you. Happy viewing!
