Power Rangers was one of the most exciting TV shows to watch on a Saturday morning, even if it did cause parents everywhere to flinch at the violence.

My personal favourite OG ranger was sarcastic valley girl, Kimberly Ann Hart, aka the Pink Ranger, with her quippy comebacks and enviable gymnastic skills.

I was delighted to discover the original actress who played Kimberly, Amy Jo Johnson, has enjoyed a lengthy career as an actress and singer-songwriter; even making a cameo in the 2017 film Power Rangers.

However, many of her fellow Rangers have experienced unusual levels of tragedy, leading many to believe in a so-called ‘Power Rangers Curse.’

Compassionate, intelligent Trini Kwan, aka the Yellow Ranger, is a fan favourite; with her formidable martial arts abilities and passion for the environment.

However, the actress who originally played her, Thuy Trang, (apart from the pilot episode), died at the young age of 27.

Back in 2001, Thuy was a passenger in a car which plunged over a cliff after the driver lost control of the vehicle on a mountain road.

According to Comic Book, the Power Rangers Time Force episode Circuit Unsure was dedicated to the memory of Thuy.

Maurice Mendoza appeared in the second season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, playing likeable teen Richie.

There was a blossoming romance between Trini and Richie, however plans for a relationship storyline were chopped when Maurice quit the show in 1994, report RANKER.

He later passed away mysteriously at the age of just 39-years-old, having never worked on television again since his Power Rangers days.

Watch a sweet scene between Trini and Richie below:

Back in the early day of Power Ranging, fitness and fruit juice proprietor Ernie ran the Angel Grove Youth Center with hospitality and sound, fatherly advice.

Sadly, the actor who played Ernie, Richard Genelle, had health issues and left the show after four years.

His character was said to have headed over to South America to take up voluntary work, in fitting with his kindly nature.

Richard died aged 47-years-old following a heart attack

In Power Rangers Wild Force, Ricardo Medina Jr. played Cole Evans – the Red Ranger and confident group leader.

However, on March 30, 2017, Medina Jr. was sentenced to a six-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

He’d been accused of murdering his roommate with a samurai sword after they’d got into an altercation over Medina Jr.’s girlfriend being at their home.

According to the BBC, the roommate reportedly broke Medina Jr.’s bedroom door down, forcing the actor to defend himself.

Skylar Julius Deleon appeared in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers at the age of 14, after starring in a few commercials.

He was later accused of killing retired couple Tom and Jackie Hawks in 2004, for the purpose of stealing their boat and life savings.

According to The Telegraph, Deleon was also found guilty of murdering Jon Jarvi, of Anaheim, in 2003.

Deleon was handed the death sentence in 2009 and is currently serving time on death row at San Quentin State Prison.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Trini 101 By MATTHEW MUELLER - August 31, 2017 0 X Even all these years later, Trini continues to be a beloved part of Power Rangers history, and for good reason. Trini was one of the most practical people on the team, but she never let that trait take over her understanding and sweet demeanor. She was an expert in martial arts and combat, but also had no issue understanding and improving on Billy's scientific ideas. She was friendly to all of the Rangers, though specifically Kimberly and Billy. She became a compassionate ear for Kimberly and a translator of sorts for Billy, but both were considered her best friends. As the Yellow Ranger, Trini commanded the Sabertooth Tiger Dinozord and wielded the Power Daggers. She would eventually get an upgrade once the Dinozords were destroyed, commanding the Griffin Thunderzord from that point on. Trini has been played by three different actresses over time. The original Trini was played by Audri Dubois, but only for one episode. The second was Thuy Trang, who played the character throughout the Morphin years until she gave up the power of the Yellow Ranger to Aisha. The third Trini was recently played by Becky G in the live-action Reboot. Sadly Thuy Trang died in a car accident on September 3rd, 2001. She was 27 years old at the time, and Saban later dedicated the Circuit Unsure episode of Time Force to her. While the Yellow Ranger has been represented by females in the states, the character started out as male in the original Super Sentai series. The series upon which Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is based is called Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, and the part of Boi is played by Takumi Hashimoto. The character's popularity continues all these years later, so hit the next slide to find out more about Trini's Power Rangers career. Power-Rangers-Trini-101 (Photo: Saban) SLIDE 1/6 – MIGHTY MORPHIN ERA PILOT In the original pilot of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, there was actually a different actress playing Trini. That part was played by actress Audri Dubois, and her take on Trini didn't just look different but acted differently as well. Dubois played up the more tomboy aspects of her character, opting for a much shorter haircut and less stylish clothing. The next version of Trini is more about being defensive and cautious, but Dubois' version was a bit more aggressive and had no qualms with becoming a Power Ranger at all. She also fought more like Jason, as opposed to the next version which focused on Mantis style Kung-Fu. Trini-Aubri (Photo: Saban) SLIDE 2/6 – MIGHTY MORPHIN ERA FULL SERIES During Trini's time on the team, she would be looked upon as the group's rock, even in the face of her own fears. She had a reputation for overcoming her fears, even conquering her fear of heights to save Billy from a Putty attack. Rita would also try and put her under a spell that drained her confidence, but she was able to overcome this as well. Trini was always very patient and compassionate towards the other Rangers, Billy in particular, as well as her family members who would make appearances like Uncle Howard and her cousin Sylvia. In both cases, she would have to save them from Rita's meddling, but she never lost her bright spark. While she would translate for Billy, she also helped him design his various scientific devices, like when she helped free the Dinozords from Lord Zedd thanks to her and Billy's signal blocker. She was also very supportive of Billy when he was trying to gain his confidence and learn martial arts, and showed a great love for the environment and humanity overall. That's why it made sense for her to leave with Jason and Zack to attend the World Peace Summit. Trini would choose frequent ally of the team Aisha to take her place as the Yellow Ranger and transferring her powers. Trini-Thuy-Trang (Photo: Saban) SLIDE 3/6 – POWER RANGERS SUPER MEGAFORCE: LEGENDARY BATTLE It isn't made clear if this is Trini or Aisha, but assuming that the rest of the original team is around, it being Trini would make sense. The Super Megaforce Rangers fought their hardest against Emperor Mavro, but were on their last legs and without Zords as he made his final assault. A Legendary assembly of Rangers would arrive to help them fight off the final invasion, including the original Black Ranger and his power axe. They ultimately pushed back the XBorg and Bruiser army and would return to the past as quickly as they appeared. Power-Rangers-Megaforce (Photo: Saban) SLIDE 4/6 – POWER RANGERS FAN FILM In Adi Shankar and Joseph Kahn's unofficial short film, the Power Rangers were given a much grittier makeover, and Trini was highlighted during the film. Spoilers for the fan film incoming, so you've been warned. A funeral is shown for the character during one of Kimberly's flashback sequences as she's being interrogated by Rocky, the former Red Ranger. It is revealed that she died during the treaty negotiations between the Machine Empire and the rest of the world after the Power Rangers failed to push them back. Power-Rangers-Fan-Film SLIDE 5/6 – POWER RANGERS REBOOT The character of Trini returned for the live-action reboot of Power Rangers, but she did receive some changes. This Trini is played by actress Becky G, and is much more of a loner than the previous Trini. In fact, it takes the prodding on of Zack and Kimberly to get her to even come along once they discover the Power Coins. This Trini also reveals later on that she is gay, the first openly gay Power Ranger in series' history. Another significant change is the lack of martial arts experience, but that is true of all of the Rangers this time around. She is much more guarded than Trini with her fellow Rangers as well, but she also isn't as close to her family as the previous Trini was, which is revealed during the film through some difficult family sequences. Power-Rangers-Becky-G-Yellow-Ranger (Photo: Saban) SLIDE 6/6 – BEFORE YOU GO Comments (0) Share your thoughts Post Power Rangers: Jason David Frank Teaches Amy Jo Johnson How To Break A Board By MATTHEW MUELLER - February 22, 2018 1 X The original Pink Ranger recently added a new skill to her impressive arsenal, courtesy of the Green Ranger. That's right, original Pink Ranger Amy Jo Johnson joined the original Green Ranger Jason David Frank on stage at Planet ComicCon, where Frank taught Johnson how to break a board. Despite it being her first board break, Johnson broke it like a pro, and the crowd was more than happy to congratulate her. You can see the whole thing in the video below, which Frank posted with the caption "@atothedoublej first board break!! Great job Amy!!! #trainmejdf @rskantc @rskapearland @risingsunkaratewest @risingsunkarateacademy #pinkranger @planetcomiconofficial." Hopefully, both will also be on hand at this year's Power Morphicon, though we already know that Frank will be in attendance. He will be this year's guest of honor, and at some point will likely be in full Lord Drakkon cosplay. "I actually do have, I have one (a Drakkon costume) on order with Aniki, and I was thinking, I'm making my first appearance at Power Morphicon in 2018," Frank said. "What I'd like to do is a one time only type of thing and I haven't announced it, the first time here but, I want to put together photo ops for 50 people but those photo ops will be sold and 100% of the money will go to a different charity. So what I'd like to do is 50 photo ops, they can bid on it, they can do whatever, once in a lifetime I'll be in that costume at Power Morphicon taking pictures and I'd like to see maybe 50 different charities, something that can help people." 1 COMMENTS He's since showcased the full costume, so it looks like that plan will come to fruition. As for Amy Jo Johnson, she recently released her new film The Space Between, a project that she not only directed but also wrote and starred in. The film was her directorial debut, and also starred Julia Sarah Stone, Lili Ames, Michael Cram, Sonya Salomaa, David Paetkau, Maria Ricossa, and Michael Ironside. you can find out more about it here.
