A Harry Potter fan-fiction has gone unexpectedly viral on TikTok after imagining a queer relationship between two beloved characters.

All The Young Dudes is a 557,000 word epic that focuses on the activities of the Marauders – James Potter, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew and Sirius Black – during their time at Hogwarts and beyond.

The saga, which was written by an anonymous user under the pen name MsKingBean89, follows the group’s adventures through the eyes of Lupin, spanning their childhood all the way through to actual canonical events from the Harry Potter series, including the death of Sirius in the Order of the Phoenix.

But while the Harry Potter novels have stood the test of time as childhood classics, All The Young Dudes probably isn’t going to be featuring in bedtime stories any time soon. The fanfic is incredibly NSFW, which might help explain why it’s found a new audience on TikTok some five years after it was first published.

The fanfic, which has had more than 5.2 million hits, has inspired all sorts of content from its readers, from artwork to Spotify playlists and even spin-off stories of its own.

Fans of the series have been especially drawn to the relationship between Lupin and Sirius, who embark on a secret gay romance that becomes one of the central threads of the fanfic. Elite Daily claims the ‘wolfstar’ couple has been dubbed ‘healing’ by fans of the Potter series, with many praising the fic’s ability to update the wizarding world for those who grew up with the books.

Reimagined LGBTQ+ Harry Potter Series Reportedly Being Planned

LGBTQ+ readers in particular have taken comfort in fact that a queer relationship is central to the fanfiction’s narrative. There are no LGBTQ+ characters in the original Harry Potter series, while the decision to portray Dumbledore as queer in the Fantastic Beasts spin-offs has been met with some controversy.

In addition, JK Rowling’s stance on trans women has left many fans disillusioned with the author, and it seems like All The Young Dudes is acting as a much needed counter-balance for fans who still want to immerse themselves in the world that they loved as kids, without feeling conflicted.
