Robert Pattinson Reveals How He Almost Got Fired From Twilight

Robert Pattinson reveals the time he was nearly fired from Twilight

Ahead of the release of The Batman, Robert Pattinson has revealed that he nearly got fired from Twilight.

That's right, it seems that the studio weren't totally Team Edward during the first film.

Reportedly, Pattinson's attempts to make the film more 'arty' weren't everyone's cup of tea.

Speaking to GQ about his iconic film role, the actor revealed some news that might come as a shock to Twilight fans.

Pattinson said that he was nearly fired from the first Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn, because he tried to make the vampire Edward 'a little too emo'.

As if that was possible.

The actor said, 'I do think there’s something in that first movie. You could see that people were taking it seriously and it has a passion to it. I was 21, and kind of wanted to make it as arty as possible.'

He added, 'And so we had this strange tension where the studio was kind of a little bit scared to make things a little too emo and stuff, and I thought that was the only way to play it.'

While we personally would've loved to see Pattinson's super-emo take on the already pretty emo vampire, it wasn't to be.

He recalled a time that his agent came to set and that he initially thought it was a nice 'surprise'.

Actually, his agent had come to say, 'Okay, so whatever you’re doing right now, after lunch, just do the opposite or you’ll be fired by the end of the day.'

Seems pretty harsh, but Pattinson obliged, adding, 'I was like, ‘okay’, so that was the only thing that got me to smile a little bit. I also think if I tried to play it lighthearted, the way I would do it would end up looking so wrong that I’d end up looking even more like a psychopath.'

To be fair, a smiley vampire does seem pretty upsetting.

Kristen Stewart, Pattinson's costar, also spoke about her experiences of filming Twilight in a recent interview with The New Yorker.

She personally loved Pattinson's approach, saying that he had an 'intellectual approach that was combined with ‘I don’t give a f*ck about this, but I’m going to make this sing’. And I was, like, ‘Ugh, same’'.

She also said that the way she and Pattinson approached the roles was what she thought was 'needed', and that it was what 'anybody playing those parts needed to feel'.
