Ryan Reynolds has responded to rumours that Deadpool is set to appear in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, making a 'promise' to fans.

The Marvel rumour mill never ends, does it? No sooner has one fan theory been confirmed, six more pop up for internet sleuths to obsess over until they're either proven true or debunked.

Amid a whole host of rumoured cameos that have been speculated about following the release of the latest trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, one of the biggest is that the film could finally see Deadpool make his official debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fans are convinced that they've spotted Deadpool in a newly-released Easter egg-filled poster, but speaking to Variety ahead of the release of his upcoming film The Adam Project, Reynolds flat-out denied that he was set to make an appearance, saying, 'I guess I'm really not supposed to say anything about that,' before adding, 'I’m really not in the movie.'

Perhaps knowing better than to take him at face value, when the reporter asked if he was lying, Reynolds acknowledged that he 'could be an unreliable narrator', but doubled down nonetheless, saying, 'I’m promising, I’m not in the movie.'

Of course, we've all known for a long time now that you can't trust anything anyone involved in the MCU says, but Reynolds is the latest superhero star to try his most convincing attempt at denying all knowledge about his potential role in an upcoming movie.

Look, we're not saying he's pulling an Andrew Garfield on us, but let's just say none of us would be particularly surprised if a foul-mouthed man in a red suit did happen to find his way into the Multiverse of Madness, especially given what we now know about whether the X-Men side of the Marvel canon fits in with Disney's wider MCU plans.

And while Reynolds was sticking to his story about his wider involvement in the MCU, he did confirm that plans for a third Deadpool movie remained in the works, telling Variety, 'It’s coming along.'

Reynolds is set to appear on screen with fellow Marvel star Mark Ruffalo in The Adam Project, which hits Netflix on March 11.
