Sandra Bullock Shares Why One 'Powerful' Channing Tatum Line In The Lost City Is So Important To Her

The A-list pair joined forces for the exciting new rom-com adventure film, which also addresses an issue close to Bullock's heart

Sandra Bullock has shared a ‘powerful’ line of Channing Tatum’s in their new film The Lost City that really resonated with her.

The A-list pair have joined forces for this year’s new rom-com adventure movie, which sees Bullock star as reclusive romance writer, Loretta Sage.

They are joined alongside Daniel Radcliffe, who plays an eccentric billionaire that kidnaps the writer before they all embark on a journey to find lost treasures.

In a recent interview, Bullock revealed how ‘heartbreaking’ it is to see female audiences of films and books be undervalued, with their wants and needs often not met.

She explained that female audiences are often ‘thought of as less than’ meaning, as a female audience member, ‘the things that bring your joy are not valuable’.

Bullock’s new film hopes to address the criticism and dismissal of romantic literature with a thoughtful line from Tatum’s character, Alan Dash.

During one scene, Sage refers to her romantic books as ‘schlock’. Dash rebukes this, telling the author that her work is relevant and important to many people.

Speaking to PA news agency, Bullock said: “You know, it’s hard to respect [something] when everything coming at it is disparaging. And then you have to look at the source of why it is being talked about or thought of in that way, and if you really get down to why – it’s heartbreaking.

“It’s heartbreaking because you’re a woman. And you’re thought of as less than, and you’re thought of as whatever your needs are, the things that bring you joy or escapism, are not valuable. And that’s a hard pill to swallow.”

Bullock added this attitude shows ‘absolutely no respect’, which makes Tatum’s line all the more important as it is coming from a male character ‘who typically would be saying those things or having us believe those things’.

She said Tatum delivered the line ‘beautifully’, adding: “So it was really powerful, and especially how he said it. It was so genuine and full of love, saying, ‘All these millions of people, you’re bringing them joy? Why are you being disparaging towards their joy, their happiness, so it takes it out of yourself?’”

Radcliffe agreed with Bullock’s sentiment, adding it was ‘so crazy’ that people are dismissive of some types of art and literature.

The Lost City hits UK cinemas on 15 April.
