Sony Randomly Announce A Venom Movie Will Be Released Next Year
Out of nowhere Sony Pictures have announced a solo movie based on one of Spider-Man’s most famous villains, Venom.
Interestingly Marvel Studios, who recently regained shared movie rights of the web-crawling superhero have made no mention of an upcoming Venom movie.
Sony revealed that the movie will be released October 5 2018, with Alex Kurtzman (who produced the Transformers and The Amazing Spider-Man 2) as a possible director.
While we ponder what kind of creative involvement Marvel Studios will have, we do know that Sony has been hell bent on doing a Venom solo film for quite a bit. During Sam Rami’s run on the original Spider-Man films with Toby Maguire, Venom was badly shoehorned into the third film – and oddly played by Topher Grace (That 70s Show).
Furthermore, prior to sharing Spidey’s movie rights with Marvel Studios there was set to be a Venom solo-flick stemming from the Amazing Spider-Man universe.
In the Marvel comics’ universe, the character of Venom has gone through some interesting development. The black symbiote left, previous owner Marc Gargan and attached him to Peter Parker’s former high school bully, turned friend, Flash Thompson.
Flash become the hero Agent Venom and even becoming a member of both The Avengers and the Guardians Of The Galaxy. However, the symbiote eventually left him and has attached itself to a character with criminal (and psychopathic) intentions.
We’re quite intrigued which character Sony will go with, hopefully it includes both Flash and the original Venom character, Eddie Brock.
