Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed what's coming up next in the second season.
In October 2021, Hwang announced there would be a second season.
The creator has since opened up about what the follow-on from Squid Game is set to have in store.
Hwang told Vanity Fair he currently has three pages' worth of ideas for the script.
However, he added there will definitely be many more games.
"Humanity is going to be put to a test through those games once again," he teased.
The theme of the second season is also set to follow on and develop from the first. Hwang said: "I want to ask the question, ‘Is true solidarity between humans possible?’"
He explained how in, the first season, characters proved that 'true solidarity' is a lot harder to achieve than you think.
"If they were capable of talking with one another, of cooperating with one another, I do agree that there could have been a possibility that we could have seen more winners," he reflected.
While Hwang has his own plans in store for new nail-biting games and wider questions to ask society, the shows' actors also have some aspirations for the sequel.
HoYeon Jung suggested the games take place in an amusement park, with different games taking place at each ride.
Park Hae-soo agreed, also noting it would be cool for the cast to have figurines made of them.
Lee Jung-jae, who played Seong Gi-hun, hopes the character of Cho Sang-Woo (Park Hae-soo) will return despite appearing to have died in the last season.
He proposed the character could have been taken away by game operatives and kept alive. Lee also said he hopes Kang Sae-byeok, played by HoYeon, will have a twin sister so he can work with the actress again.
HoYeon reflected that she 'just want[s] Gi-hun to have a more happy life'.
Park hopes a second season will encourage even more people to watch Korean movies and television programmes.
Hwang says he anticipates the second season of Squid Game will be ready to be released onto Netflix by the end of 2023 or 2024.
