Studio Ghibli announces it's working on a project with Lucasfilm

The cinematic giants confirmed they were working together

Studio Ghibli has announced that it is working on a project with Lucasfilm.

In a cryptic tweet, which really didn't give much away in terms of what they have planned together, the studio shared a short video., which showed their two logos coming together.

And the prospect of the two cinematic giants finally working on something has got people very, very excited.

Sharing the post, one fan said: "I just threw up my ribcage."

Another wrote: "I legitimately thought this was fake the first 5 times it popped up.

"I'm sorry WHAT?" asked a third.

Obviously, the announcement also got people wondering whether this means Studio Ghibli would be collaborating with Lucasfilm on a Star Wars movie.

And while that aspect has yet to be confirmed, it seems very possible as the video was subsequently re-tweeted by the Star Wars account.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the work of Studio Ghibli, the world-renowned Japanese filmmaker is responsible for some of the most celebrated animations around, including Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and the Valley of the Wind.

But speaking of Star Wars, Christian Bale recently revealed that there was one role he would have loved to have taken on in the series.

Bale said: “All I ever wanted in Star Wars was to be in a Star Wars outfit and hit my head on a door or something as I walked through.

“The real nerds who watched Star Wars way too many times always knew about that one scene where the Stormtrooper hits his head on the door as he comes through. I wanted to be that guy. That was it.

“But look, if I’m fortunate enough to be more than that, oh man, yeah. What a delight that would be. I’ve still got the figures from when I was little.

"I also know Kathy Kennedy very well because she was working with Spielberg when I did Empire of the Sun, and now, she runs the Star Wars universe.”

The identity of the head-whacking Stromtrooper is a part of Star Wars lore. So much so, it even spawned its very own fan documentary in 2019 with the incredible title The Empire Strikes Door.

In his documentary, YouTuber Jamie Stangroom reckoned he’d finally solved the enduring mystery.

Speaking ahead of the documentary’s release, he said: "I was starting to think that maybe some mysteries just aren't meant to be solved: the Loch Ness Monster, the Yeti, the Bigfoot – all of which theoretically could have been the Stormtrooper that bumped his head.

"But in the end, I think I may have just solved this geeky mystery once and for all."
