The first trailer for the final instalment of The Witcher that will feature Henry Cavill in the title role is here.
Cavill is set to leave Geralt of Rivia behind him for good, but not before one third and final series as the titular Witcher starring alongside Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan as the powerful mage Yennefer of Vengerburg and the young princess Cirilla of Cintra.
When we last saw Geralt and the gang, it was a time of great upheaval for the Continent, with everyone in the world – and a whole heap of monsters – seeking to capture Ciri.

Now, we’ll get to see how things develop as the three heroes go into hiding, but find themselves embroiled in yet more danger, intrigue, and political machinations.
The official Netflix synopsis for the show explains: “As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it.
“Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where they hope to uncover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery.
“They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”

If we thought the first two series of The Witcher were moody, we can pretty much expect more of the same, it would seem.
The first volume of episodes will be released onto the streaming platform on June 29 2023, with the second set of episodes following on July 27.
With Cavill set to put down the sword and leave the show, that leaves room for Liam Hemsworth to step in and take up the role for himself.
Cavill had stepped back and announced that he’d be returning to the DC Universe as Superman, but that speculation ended after new DC co-chair James Gunn announced that they’d be instead focusing on a younger version of the superhero going forward.

After that news broke, Cavill wrote on Instagram: “It’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.
"After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life.”
Still, we can at least look forward to one final series of Cavill playing Geralt, as fans have enjoyed the previous two to date.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has promised that Cavill will receive an ‘heroic send-off’ in the two-part third season, telling Entertainment Weekly: “Geralt’s big turn is about giving up neutrality and doing anything that he has to do to get to Ciri [Freya Allan]. And to me, it’s the most heroic send-off that we could have, even though it wasn’t written to be that.”
The first volume of The Witcher series three will hit Netflix on June 29, with the second following on July 27.
