The Santa Clause star Tim Allen is set to reprise his beloved role of Scott Calvin for an upcoming Disney+ limited series.
Allen is synonymous with Christmas for many people as the actor took on the job of playing Father Christmas in the iconic 1994 film The Santa Clause, where his character Scott was put in charge of Christmas after the previous Santa fell off his roof.
Though Scott was far from accepting of the role at first, he couldn’t resist the cookies and milk for long and eventually found himself to be a natural Santa, with the help of his trusty elves and a determined, quick-growing white beard.
Allen returned for two Santa Clause sequels in 2002 and 2006 before hanging up his Christmas hat, but the star is now set to return to the character of Scott in a series that currently has a working title the same as the original film.
After watching him take on Jack Frost and find the perfect Mrs. Claus, Disney+ fans are now set to see Scott approaching his 65th birthday, as he realises he can’t be Santa forever. Announcing the news on Twitter, Disney+ described Allen’s return as a ‘clause for celebration’.
According to a synopsis for the show, Scott is ‘starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole.
‘With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole,’ the synopsis continues.
The actor is set to executive-produce the new series alongside Modern Family and 30 Rock’s Jack Burditt, who will also act as showrunner.
Though some social media users have questioned why the news has been announced just after Christmas – Scott Calvin’s time to shine – news of Allen’s return for the role has largely been met with delight from many fans of the original film, which won the actor a People’s Choice Award.
Some have already expressed plans to binge the series upon its release, while others are already demanding the return of other characters such as Jack Frost and Bernard the elf.
Disney+ has not yet released any details about when we might expect to see Allen back in action as Santa, but hopefully we’ll learn more soon!
