Tipping Point Fans Blast Show As ‘Fix’ After Contestant Misses Out On Extra Cash
Tipping Point found itself under the scrutiny of its fans after a contestant missed out on the extra cash on a recent episode.
The controversial moment came when the show’s host, Ben Shephard, was forced to discount some of the contestant’s counters because of an arguably harsh technicality.
The episode led many viewers to call out the show, calling the whole thing a ‘fix’.
The moment in question came about on last night’s episode, January 17, as some of contestant Lauren’s counters fell while she ‘wasn’t in play’, with Shephard stating that they wouldn’t count as a result.
It all got a bit awkward when, following one of Lauren’s answers to a question, an array of counters fell. Shephard was quick to notice it, pointing out, ‘A little drop there, over in drop zone four.’
He added: ‘So, unfortunately, Lauren, because those counters fell after your last counter had played out, you were no longer in play so they will have to be voided.’
Lauren seemed fine with it but then had to decide whether to play on and try to leave with £10,000, or accept the £2,850 she was on already.
Shephard explained: ‘You could walk away with that money right now or you can trade it for three final counters to put into the machine in hope of getting the jackpot counter out.’
He then asked: ‘The question is, do you think three will be enough, Lauren?’
The fallen counters had clearly affected Lauren’s decision making, though, and she answered: ‘If it was more in the middle then I think I’d probably be quite inclined to go for it. But because of where it is, it’s just too much of a risk, Ben.
‘I think I’m going to have to just take the money please.’
How close was she to the jackpot? Very close, as the run through following her decision showed the jackpot counter would have fallen after the third go, Express reports.
Social media were fuming at the result. One Twitter user wrote: ‘She was dealt a bad hand with that ambient drop. ITV cheapskates #tippingpoint.’
Another added: ‘#tippingpoint Robbing t***s. She was still in play until she made her decision. Fix fix fix.’
A third commented: ‘I thought you kept counters no matter when they fall in the last round? #tippingpoint.’
While another asked: ‘How the hell can you get an ambient drop out of play in the final round? #tippingpoint.’
