Filming on Blake Lively’s latest film has had to be suspended following complications after she required surgery.

Production on The Rhythm Section has halted once again as the surgery on the actress’ hand didn’t go as planned, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Gossip Girl star has to undergo further surgery on her hand before shooting can resume.

The original incident with her hand happened during the filming of the upcoming spy film back in December, and she underwent surgery to rectify the problem.

However, sources have told The Hollywood Reporter that shooting has been suspended indefinitely and crew members have been told to take on any other work.

The director of the film, Reed Morano, said earlier this month:

[Blake’s] okay. She’s just recovering. The problem with is that normally, that kind of an injury, you would have four to six weeks of rehab and then you would wear a splint. We have to go into stunts, so it’s very complicated.

It’s currently uncertain just when filming will start again, and one insider has claimed that less than half of the movie has been shot, with another saying production could be halted for as many as five months.

The film is currently slated for a February 22, 2019 release but at this stage it is unlikely this date will stand.

Producers confirmed the decision yesterday (Monday) in a statement, which reads:

Hiatus on the production of The Rhythm Section has been extended due to the hand injury Blake Lively sustained while filming an action sequence on the action thriller at the end of last year.

The spy thriller is being adapted from the novel of the same name by Mark Burnell, and revolves around Lively’s character who tries to uncover the truth of a plane crash which killed her family.

The film has a $50 million budget, and is being produced by EON Productions, who also produced the James Bond franchise.

We previously reported on the transformation Lively had undertaken for her new role in the film, which was shooting in Ireland, and Blake’s husband Ryan Reynolds’ trolling of his wife.

Ryan posted a pic on Insta of his wife and mother of his children looking unrecognisable in her role with the simple caption ‘#nofilter’.

As was to be expected, the post went viral, with fans guffawing at the couple’s quirky sense of humour.

One person commented: ‘I just want a relationship like this.’ Another tagged Blake with the comment: ‘can’t wait for the comeback!!!’

The two have been hitting back and forth at each other for some time, since Ryan’s birthday post to his wife.

In the post, Ryan jokingly posted a photo to congratulate Blake on her birthday, but the image had Blake cropped out.

The internet blew up more than a little, and that was that – at least until Ryan’s birthday this year.

The picture had a Ryan in it, but it was surely a big mistake, as it was – unfortunately for Reynolds – Ryan Gosling. Whoops!

‘Happy Birthday, baby’ she captioned the picture, featuring less than half Ryan’s face. Boom.

Let’s hope Blake’s hand recovers so she can get back to filming The Rhythm Section and, perhaps more importantly, type out some more hilarious digs at her husband.
