Channing Tatum has always been pretty open about his past career as a stripper, he went as far as recreating his moves in Magic Mike.
Surpringly though, the 37-year-old actor told the whole of Hollywood about his exotic dancing job before he told his own dad.
Tatum’s father Glenn actually only found out about it after he saw his son giving Ellen DeGeneres a lap dance on her chat show in February 2010.
The Step Up star said on the Jimmy Kimmel show:
That was my very first time on your show, and I got to let you know that that was the very first time that my dad actually found out that I was a stripper for a short time.
In his past, Tatum used to stripped in Tampa 'for like 25 girls, at best' and he confessed it 'wasn't glamorous whatsoever' so he didn't miss anything about it.
Footage from a vintage 2010 interview on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, where she asked a long-haired Channing about his stripper career, was shown on Jimmy Kimmel last night.
He gave the comedian a mini lap dance and hip grind while the audience all screamed and cheered him on...and no doubt his dad was screaming in shock at home.
Ellen had no idea that she broke the suprising news to his dad and asked 'wait, your dad didn't know you were stripper until that day? How did he take it?'.
It turns out that Glenn didn't take it well, 'Really, really not well'.
He must have made peace with the idea as Tatum has gone on to create a Vegas show inspired by Magic Mike, saying 'God knows we have enough gentlemen's clubs in this world, so let's start the first gentle-ladies' club—or maybe not so gentle, depends on what you're into'.
I guess it's better than finding out by walking in on him or something.
Later on in the interview, where Tatum was a guest host, a photo that appeared to show Ellen giving Tatum a dance was then brought up.
Magic Mike Live in Vegas has been a hit, and even some people who showed up with their husbands thinking it was some sort of magician ended up liking it.
