Warning: Spoiler Alert - Stop Reading Here If You Don't Want The Series Ruined
When we last left John Wick he had just broken the cardinal sin of killing someone at the Continental Hotel, of all places, a neutral ground for the guild of assassins. This transgression had him kicked out of the guild and placed a hefty bounty on his head.
So we can only assume the film picks up near those events with the John and his dog on the run from every murderous, and opportunistic hitman looking to make a name for themselves.
The 15-rated action series, directed by David Leitch and Chad Stahelski was a surprise hit when it first burst onto screens in October 2014. The first film ended up grossing $88 million (over £65.4 million) worldwide despite a production budget of only $20 million (just over £14.8 million).
John Wick: Chapter 2, which came out this year, had a budget of $40 million (£29.7 million) and made even more bank at the box office, raking in $171.5 million (£127.2 million) worldwide.
Screenwriter Derek Kolstad, who wrote the script for the first two films will be returning to pen the third film.
While a third film was always inevitable questions remain whether Stahleski is down to direct . When he spoke to Collider he told them for now he's currently 'acting as prep director'.
He said that he wants to expand further on the assassins guild, with an expanded universe that goes beyond the three films and its New York settings.
