Nightwing Is The Latest DC Super Hero To Get A Solo Movie

Nightwing has been added to the DC movie universe.

Coming fresh off the success of The Lego Batman Movie, director Chris Mckay will be helming the newly announced Nightwing movie.

For those of you who don’t know who Nightwing is (his fictional civilian name is Dick Grayson), he’s THE original Robin, Batman’s first ever sidekick.

As he got older he stepped out from under the shadow of the caped crusader, left Gotham City and became the vigilante guardian of Bludhaven.

Interestingly enough, after Grant Morrison’s fantastic Final Crisis ark, which saw the apparent death of Bruce Wayne (because we all know that no one in comics ever dies), Grayson took on the role of Batman, taking Bruce’s son Damien as Robin in the process.

McKay for his part has already featured Grayson as Robin in The Lego Batman Movie, voiced by Michael Cera. Although we can imagine the live action version will have a far darker tone.

The Nightwing project joins the ever growing list of upcoming Warner Bros. and DC movies, which include this year’s Wonder Woman and the highly anticipated Justice League, solo films for Batman, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg and Shazam.

There’s also going to be another Suicide Squad ¬†sequel,¬†which is quite surprising considering how the last one was ripped to shreds by both critics and fans.

Furthermore the upcoming Nightwing script will be written by Bill Dubuque who wrote this year’s The Accountant, which stars current Batman, Ben Affleck.
