Rocky himself, Sylvester Stallone, has announced he will both direct and produce Creed 2, the next film in the popular franchise.
71-year-old Stallone made the announcement yesterday by sharing a photo of himself and Creed star Michael B. Jordan on his Instagram.
The film will be a sequel to the 2015 boxing drama hit, which was a spin-off from the classic Rocky film series.
Stallone captioned the photo:
Looking forward to directing and producing the incredibly talented Michael B. Jordan in Creed 2 next year … One more round!
Directed by Ryan Coogler, Creed saw Stallone reprising the role of Rocky Balboa with Jordan playing Adonis Creed, the son of Apollo Creed – the boxer’s former rival.
But with this sequel Stallone is also returning to the director’s chair – the actor has directed every film in the franchise except Rocky and Creed.
The first Creed film was a massive hit among fans and critics alike giving a solid box office performance earning $173 million worldwide.
Stallone even got nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and walked away with a Golden Globe in the same category.
Last month Stallone announced in another Instagram post Creed 2 will begin shooting next year.
The still of himself and Jordan training in the first film was captioned 'getting stronger, 2018' with the hashtag Creed 2.
And if you weren't excited enough for the film already, it seems like Creed 2 will also see Rocky himself take on his nemesis Ivan Drago.
Rocky IV saw the two battle it out in an intense 15-round fight where, after seemingly endless brutal blows, the film's protagonist only just managed to emerge victorious.
It was at a cost though as the fight to end all fights essentially ended his career.
Although Rocky did come out on top, it wasn't a satisfying win and fans have been wanting a rematch ever since.
Now, more than 30 years later, it looks like it's finally happening in Creed 2.
Stallone told TMZ Sports things are definitely going to get violent between Rocky and Drago, saying:
It wouldn’t be a party without Drago would it? I’m gonna punch him. You know I gotta hit Drago once.
This came only a week after Stallone teased Drago is coming back for the Creed sequel but no-one was really sure in what capacity.
The legendary actor shared a photo of what appears to be the finished handwritten script and eagle-eyed fans will be able to pick out words such as ‘and friends are on their feet’ and ‘inconsolable’.
Tantalisingly, Stallone captioned the snap with the hashtag #drago, appearing to confirm the return of Rocky’s arch rival Ivan Drago, played by Dolph Lundgren.
Of course details are scarce and we are yet to have confirmation, but there are also rumours circulating about Adonis Creed fighting Drago's kid too.
It would be quite the revenge fight as the Russian, Drago, beat Creed's father to death during an exhibition match in Las Vegas.
Whatever Creed 2 does bring us, we're sure it'll be exciting!
