After what has been dubbed THE biggest Oscars f*ck up in history, the accounting firm behind the mess up has released a statement.

It all went tits up last night when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway went to announce Best Picture and La La Land was given the award, but actually it belonged to Moonlight.

They were mid-way through their gushing speech when the presenter stepped in to say it was wrong and they hadn’t won it after all.

You can watch the monumental f*ck up here:

So this morning there has been a flurry of activity as Hollywood moguls desperately try to figure out how-the-hell that huge cock-up happened, the Independent reports.

Pricewaterhousecoopers, who have been behind the award ceremony’s ballot-counting system for 83 years, have now accepted responsibility for the massive fail.

They said:

We sincerely apologize to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture.

The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred. We appreciate the grace with which the nominees, the Academy, ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel handled the situation.

Warren Beatty who was presenting the award must be devastated at what happened seeing as he was the one holding the award card.

He admitted:

I opened the envelope and it said: Emma Stone, La La Land.

That’s why I took such a long pause and looked at Faye, and at you. I wasn’t trying to be funny.

What a horrendous and hilarious situation at the same time.
