Fans of getting up close and personal with murderous alien monsters will be delighted to learn that there’s an official Alien VR game on the way.
Set to adapt Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien: Covenant (which is a prequel to Alien but a sequel to Prometheus), it’ll be coming as a paid app to ‘major VR platforms’.
Those hoping for a touch of authenticity will be glad to know that the spinoff will be produced by Scott himself, while developer Fox Innovation Lab describes it as ‘a dread-inducing journey into the depths of the Alien universe.’
The only troubling part is that Scott’s production company – RSA Films – collaborated with Fox Innovation Lab once before on a VR tie-in for The Martian, and it wasn’t very good at all.
However, let’s assume that everyone learned from their mistakes. Also, given that visual effects artist David Karlak is on board as director for Alien VR, we’ve every reason to believe Scott and his crew will turn out a fine game this time.
Of course, the best possible outcome for everyone would have been if we finally got a VR version of the excellent Alien: Isolation, but that probably isn’t gonna happen anytime soon.
Alien: Covenant hugs the faces of cinemas everywhere on May 19, so expect the VR tie-in to land around the same time.
