DICE has revealed further details regarding the massive impending Battlefield 1 update, which includes a new map, weapon, and mode.
The developer revealed in a blog post that, in addition to the already confirmed Giant’s Shadow map, the free update will also add a new weapon called the grenade crossbow (sounds awesome), and will introduce a spectator mode.
Spectator mode pretty much does what it says on the tin, in that it’s there for you to simply watch a match as a spectator.
In this observation based mode, you can switch between first and third-person cameras, as well as make use of a birds-eye view to see the battlefield as a whole – there’s also a ‘free cam’ in which you can float around the map like some kind of ghost.
The Battlefield 1 update will also introduce a new option for Custom Games, which limits all gamers to their class’ starting rifle, to ‘provide players with gameplay inspired by the WW1 trenches’, according to DICE.
There’ll also be some tweaking done to shotgun balance, as DICE reckon certain shotguns were too powerful at certain distances. As such, they’ll be reducing the range of the M97 Trench Gun, Model 10-A, and the Sawed Off Shotgun.
Premium Battlefield 1 members are now able to download the update for themselves, while everyone else will have to wait until December 20.
Meanwhile, the WWI shooter’s first paid expansion is set to arrive in March 2017.
