On a long list of anticipated videogame sequels that we’ve all half given up on, Beyond Good and Evil 2 probably ranks somewhere between Half Life 3 and Metroid Prime 4. But director Michel Ancel has shone a ray of hope into our darkened lives by suggesting that a sequel to the 2003 cult classic is still in the works.
The reveal came about during an episode of Devs Play – a YouTube show which invites various developers to come and play through their games, discussing the development process as they go. Naturally, the episode in question saw Ancel playing through the original Beyond Good and Evil.
While Ancel doesn’t really explicitly confirm or deny the existence of the sequel, he discusses it in the present tense, heavily implying that it’s still being worked on. Towards the end of the episode one of the shows’ hosts (Tim Schafer) asks if Ancel was in the head space of the game because he was making a sequel.
Yeah, but it’s difficult because it’s hard for me to do the same kind of game two times. I always want to do something different.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 was first announced way back in 2008, and Ubisoft confirmed it was still in development in 2014. We’ve not heard a peep from any official channels since then, but the word of the bloke working on it will do us nicely.
