Remember Brutal Legend? It was a pretty cool adventure/RTS hybrid that merged fantasy elements with some of the best heavy metal music of the last few decades.
Oh, and it starred Jack Black, and featured appearances from the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and the late, great Lemmy Kilmister. Obviously not a title that screamed mainstream appeal – but it had its fans.
At any rate, these fans were whipped up into something of a frenzy recently, when a screenshot captioned ‘Ormagoden Lives’ appeared online, sparking rumours of an impending sequel.
Unfortunately for fans, developer Double Fine soon stepped in to confirm that this image was created by a fan site, and that there are no immediate plans for Brutal Legend 2.
Today in killjoy news: This was a fan site posting, and nothing to do with us. Sorry if you got excited!
Of course, it didn’t help that Double Fine’s own Lee Petty shared the image in question over Twitter, which you can see below.
Of course, Petty then had to quickly step in with another Tweet to apologise for the confusion, saying that he was just sharing some artwork and ‘fondly remembering Brutal Legend‘.
While this is undoubtedly crushing news for those that got their hopes up, Double Fine did suggest that we might yet see Brutal Legend 2 one day.
Writing on Twitter, they said:
Not saying it’s never happening, but we have no plans right now, and will be working on Psychonauts 2 for AGES!
Double Fine had previously suggested that they’d make Brutal Legend 2 if Psychonauts 2 did well, so if you really want it, you know what you need to head out and buy.
