Huge news for Destiny fans – Activision have announced we’ll be getting a “large new expansion” for the game this year, and a full blown sequel for 2017.
The company said in a press release:
Activision Publishing, along with its partners at Bungie, expects to bring a large new expansion to Destiny in 2016 and to release a full game sequel in 2017.
Last month a report suggested that Destiny 2 would be delayed out of 2016 and into the following year, but at least we’re getting a hefty expansion to tide us over.
Bungie.net’s This Week at Bungie update said:
We’ll be plotting more specific waypoints as time goes on. Right now, there are hundreds of passionate people at Bungie working to turn the plan for Destiny’s future into the adventures, dangerous enemies, and glittering treasures that await us. As soon as we’re ready, we’ll share the details with you in all the usual places. In the meantime, we’ll keep the conversation rolling with the team on the support front. We’re also gathering up details for spring as the team begins to lock it in.
There are no more details just yet on either Destiny 2 or the 2016 expansion, but expect to hear more about the release before the proper sequel gets pushed out into the open. A big new update hits Destiny in Spring.
