Did you find yourself confused by the most recent trailer for Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding? Don’t worry, even the people involved aren’t sure what’s going on.
In an interview with BirthMoviesDeath, Hannibal and Rogue One star Mads Mikkelsen spoke a little bit about his involvement with Kojima’s latest effort, in which he pops up as a sinister solider type.
If you need to jog your memory, take a look at the trailer below.
Weird, right? At least we can take some comfort from the fact that old Mads was as baffled as the rest of us.
I mean, you know (Kojima). He’s a very brilliant man. I mean … the stuff he told me? I only understood some of it. There was a lot of (mimes being baffled) ‘What?’ I have to see it before I understand. Because with Death Stranding, he’s creating something completely new.
Despite the fact that Mads isn’t entirely sure what Death Stranding is all about (at least for the time being), he has nothing but praise for Kojima himself, who left Konami at the end of 2015 to pursue his own projects – Death Stranding is the first of these.
Mads recently told IGN as part of the Rogue One press tour:
Kojima is a master. He’s the Kasparov of video games. He’s such a visionary person. [Working on a video game] was just something I’d never crossed before, so it was a wonderful opportunity to dive into that world.
When pushed for further details on his character in Death Stranding, Mikkelsen simply teased we’ll learn more at a later date – although it’s far more likely that he just isn’t sure.
Ewan Moore is a journalist at UNILAD Gaming who still quite hasn’t gotten out of his mid 00’s emo phase. After graduating from the University of Portsmouth in 2015 with a BA in Journalism & Media Studies (thanks for asking), he went on to do some freelance words for various places, including Kotaku, Den of Geek, and TheSixthAxis, before landing a full time gig at UNILAD in 2016.
