Revealed at The Game Awards, Obsidian’s new game is a gorgeous looking single player RPG called The Outer Worlds. It’s basically Fallout:New Vegas in space, and that’s fine with me.
The studio behind classic RPG hits like Knights of the Old Republic, and New Vegas have clearly been cooking up this game for a while, as it’s looking gorgeous.
The two minute trailer they shared during the awards show was a highlight for gamers everywhere, especially since it represents the kind of Falloutesque single player experience fans are hungry for.
Despite the fact that Microsoft purchased Obsidian earlier in the year, The Outer Worlds will be coming to Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4, and reportedly has a budget somewhere between the indie Pillars of Eternity and the AAA New Vegas.
The game is being published by Private Division, which is a new label started by Take-Two. As I’m sure you know, Take-Two also owns 2K and Rockstar, so this is another solid string to their bow.
I’m sorry to continue to draw comparisons with New Vegas, but The Outer Worlds doesn’t just look similar to Obsidian’s Fallout game, it also seems pretty close in tone, with a knowing sense of humour as corporations like Spacer’s Choice and Auntie Cleo’s have taken over entire planets.
The Outer Worlds doesn’t have a solid release date beyond “2019”, and I’d probably even expect that to change at some point to be honest. This looks like one game worth waiting for though.
