A couple of weeks back PewDiePie made waves after threatening to delete his YouTube channel for good.

In an apparent dispute with YouTube over them trying to ‘kill’ his content, their highest-paid star said he would be done with his channel once he reached 50 million subscribers.

But he fooled us all, and decided instead to delete the much-less popular second channel he began in October.

PewDiePie, real name Felix Kjellberg, has now gone into more detail about why he threatened to finish his relationship with the video-sharing site and how it all got rather out of hand.

“If your channel is dying, just pull a PR stunt,” he said, before getting a lot more serious about the reasons behind his decision.

Kjellberg said that he takes the channel extremely seriously, despite the image he’s cultivated himself as ‘this weird silly Swedish guy persona where I’m just an idiot’.

But he went on to say that he simply pulled this stunt to raise awareness for lesser-known YouTubers who are getting dicked over by YouTube’s algorithm, adding that they didn’t have the same platform to say something about it.

Which to be fair is something which still remains unanswered by YouTube.

He also pointed out that very few outlets reported his charity efforts in the midst of this drama, where he and his friends raised more than $1.3 million for AID’s non-profit organisation Red.
