A number of lucky journalists recently had a chance to go hands-on with Capcom’s upcoming Resident Evil 7, which of course means we all get a wealth of new footage to pore over.
As I’ve mentioned before, the upcoming survival horror might look like a completely different take on the franchise at first glance, but the core gameplay looks to be the closest to the original Resident Evil we’ve seen in years.
There are two bits of footage below – courtesy of IGN and GamesRadar+ – both of which show off some of the threats we’ll be dealing with inside the neglected old house that we the player so unwisely choose to enter.
The major threat in the game is the sinister Baker family – an infected, seemingly invincible bunch that are dead set on stalking you through the many twisted rooms and corridors. Think Alien Isolation meets Resident Evil and you’re on to something.
It seems to be that – as with the original – combat in Resident Evil 7 should be avoided at pretty much all times. There are guns, knives, and even flamethrowers to be found, but this just barely holds back the unstoppable march of the Baker family.
You can check out both videos below – but be aware of gore, and the potential that certain moments could make you jump out of your skin at work.
Resident Evil 7 comes to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 24, 2017.
