It seems there are three levels of joy to be had regarding the recent reveal of Red Dead Redemption 2. Allow me, if you will, to explain them.
PC gamers are pissed, since it’s only coming to PS4 and Xbox One. Xbox One owners are likely elated, but a little miffed, because PS4 owners (who are loving life) just found out they get exclusive RDR 2 online content first.
This news comes via the PlayStation Blog, where it was announced that Sony has struck a deal with Rockstar Games, so that players of the PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 will receive ‘first access to earn select online content.’
Clearly this isn’t cause for those with an Xbox One to run straight to GAME and trade in for a PS4, but it’ll be a neat little bonus.
It’s also not really clear what this first access content will be. It could be something as big as a couple of quests/missions, or something as trivial as a new hat or weapon.
Here’s what Sony said:
We are pleased to announce that PS4 players get first access to earn select online content in the vast open world of Red Dead Redemption 2. Check back on PlayStation.Blog for more details soon and for all of the latest information on Red Dead Redemption 2.
If you recall, Rockstar promised that the hotly anticipated sequel would offer up a ‘new online multiplayer experience’ – if Red Dead is going down a Destiny style path, then early access to various cosmetic items and weapons would make the most sense, even if that’s the least exciting possibility.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will launch worldwide on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Fall 2017.
