I think if there’s one food pretty much everyone can agree is excellent, it’s pizza. We love it so much, the average Brit will enjoy a total of 731 pizzas in their lifetime – that’s 5,847 slices.
Whether you like a meat feast, a controversial Hawaiian, or a classic Margherita, there’s a pizza for everyone. You can have it for lunch, dinner, or a midnight snack, and even enjoy the leftover slices as a hungover breakfast.
Basically, pizza is life.
Research carried out by VoucherCodes.co.uk looked in to our pizza eating habits, and found out what kind of pizzas make up that total of 731.
The figure roughly includes 130 pepperoni, 124 cheese and tomato, and, probably because there was no other option, 64 ham and pineapple versions.
Pineapple does not belong on pizza!
Adding to the total are 73 vegetarian pizzas, 55 four cheese, 30 with a seafood topping, 93 meat feast, 71 BBQ and 91 made up of varied toppings.
The study also revealed the typical pizza lover will spend £9,725 during their lifetime on ordering in the (mostly) cheese-topped treat, while £6,303 will be spent on supermarket pizzas.
It’s quite a sickening amount of money when you think about it, but I still don’t think it’ll stop us from buying the beloved treat!
Anita Naik, who works as a lifestyle editor at VoucherCodes.co.uk, spoke about our love for the Italian meal, and advised some ways in which we could save money while still helping ourselves to a slice (or seven).
With so many different toppings and bases to choose from, it’s no wonder us Brits gobble up so many pizzas.
With the average pizza-lover splurging almost £10k in their lifetime on takeaway pizzas alone, it can be an expensive treat.
Pizza discounts are one of our most popular offers, so if you’ve got a craving for a cheesy takeaway make sure you grab one of our codes first and so you can munch that pizza and get a great saving at the same time!
If it wasn’t already evident we consume a lot of pizza, the study also found Brits typically devour 135 takeaway pizzas, 72 restaurant-bought pizzas, and 274 supermarket ones.
As if that wasn’t enough, we also enjoy 68 homemade pizzas, and another 182 bought from street stalls or eaten at friends or relatives’ houses.
The huge numbers go hand-in-hand with the fact one in three of the 2,000 adults who took part said pizza was their favourite takeaway, while another one in five described pizza as their favourite food.
Thin crust is the most favoured option, followed by deep pan, with mushrooms coming in at number one for our most favourite topping.
Mushrooms were followed closely by pepperoni, ham, chicken and tomato, while anchovies, prawns and Cumberland sausage were revealed to be the least favourite toppings.
Friday emerged as the most popular night to order a takeaway pizza, which makes sense after a long week at work.
I was really surprised at Britain’s favourite toppings, who’d have thought mushrooms would be on the podium.
Whatever your favourite is, make sure you check to see if you can save some cash by using takeaway restaurants “create your own” options – you can save over £1 on some pizzas if you build it yourself.

With red onions, green and red peppers, pineapple, bacon and sweetcorn also making it into the top ten.
