Despite it being 2018 online trolls still sadly exist, people who feel the need to body shame both men and women anonymously from behind their keyboards.

Although they have no right to make a comment on someone else’s size, shape and appearance, it is a common issue which affects many, especially celebrities.

Many stars have taken a stand against this including recently Anne Hathaway who anticipated the abuse before it even happened, which is a sad sign of the world we live in.

In recent months the 35-year-old Hollywood actor who is best known for her performances in The Devil Wears Prada, The Dark Knight Rises and Les Miserables has been gaining extra weight for a forthcoming movie role.

Predicting the negativity that was to come, Hathaway shut down trolls in a post on Instagram.

Sharing a time-lapse video of herself working out, Hathaway wrote:

I am gaining weight for a movie role and it is going well. To all the people who are going to fat shame me in the upcoming months, it’s not me, it’s you. Peace

P.S. I wanted to set this to Queen’s Fat Bottomed Girls but copyright said no. Continued peace.

The song really would have been the icing on the cake but Hathaway’s message was still effective and heard.

Fans rushed to applaud Hathaway for speaking out with her video receiving, at time of writing (April 7), over 1.2 million views.

People flooded the comments with messages of support praising the actor for taking a stand.

Jessie cheered Hathaway on commenting:

One. Gaining weight by working out is nothing to be shamed! Its healthy and natural.

Two. You are gorgeous no matter what size! You are one actor I look up to and hope my daughter will too!

Keep being you. Be happy and love and light! Never let anyone tell you you’re nothing less!!

Jennifer added she doesn’t understand why people troll in the first place saying:

Why must we fat shame or skinny shame? You are gorgeous go get it girl. And lucky – getting paid to pack it on then take it off.

Sheila Taylor meanwhile was upset Hathaway even felt the need to post the message writing:

The fact that you needed to post this is sad. One should be able to gain or lose without feeling the need to explain anything to anyone.
