An emotional father celebrated his child’s recovery from his first bout of chemotherapy, with an amazing dance at his hospital bedside.
In the heartwarming video, which has since gone viral, 34-year-old Kenny Thomas, of Merchantville, New Jersey, can be seen breaking out into some impressive dance moves as his one-year-old son, Kristian, watches on in awe from his hospital bed.
Kristian was diagnosed with leukemia last month, (June 2018) and spent just over a month at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, before he was cleared to go home for a few days.
This was news that Kenny -who’s a professional dancer – celebrated in the best way he knew how – entertaining his toddler in the process.
Kenny’s clip, which has been viewed, (at the time of writing), over 20,000 times on his Instagram page, sees the father dancing while Kristian tries to join in with him.
The brave tot can be seen clapping and keeping a watchful eye on his adoring father.
At one point, Kristian coos and smiles while looking at his father, clearly excited to watch him dance. Absolutely adorable!
Kenny danced to Ciara’s new song, Level Up, which she released earlier this month, and in doing so, the overjoyed dad delivered his own version of the ‘Level Up Challenge’, which the star launched on social media to promote the hit, encouraging fans to share videos of themselves dancing to the song.
According to NBC, Thomas’ wife, Josilyne, recorded the magical moment between the father and son.
Seeing him full of life, happy, dancing, it truly helps me to get through.
Kristian went back to the hospital Wednesday (July 25), and will return for a second round of chemotherapy on Monday, (July 30).
His parents believe his story, as well as the viral video, will encourage other families who are going through a similar situation to never lose hope.
Don’t ever look at a situation and think the worst. I want people to look at their situation and flip it and change the perspective.
According to the Daily Mail, Kenny is the founder and creative director of a dance studio in Pennsauken, New Jersey, aptly named, The Level Dance Complex — a name picked well before Ciara’s song came along.
The father of four got is said to have got into the habit of dancing for Kristian during chemotherapy as a way to lift the toddler’s spirits.
Speaking to ABC News, Kenny said:
Music is therapeutic for him and he’s always calm when music is on and when someone is dancing.
He’s always in the studio with me and is always seeing me dance. He is a bundle of joy and ball of fire who is truly inspiring.
What an amazing father and a truly braze little boy!
We wish Kristian all the best with his recovery.
