You may wonder why today of all days is the one where your partner is most likely to cheat on you, but apparently there is a very good reason.

Research gathered from thousands of self-confessed cheaters revealed that they’re most likely to have an affair in the New Year and bizarrely, the date that they’re most likely to cheat is January 9th.

The dating website, Gleeden – created for people who aspire to cheat – revealed that the site sees a spike in newcomers on the second Monday after Christmas.

So that means that this year it’s landed on Monday January 9th, deeming it the day in which people are most likely to cheat, according to the Daily Mail.

A spokesperson said:

On Monday the 11th of January 2016, the site also recorded an increase in registrations of more than 320 per cent.

This trend is observed throughout the month of January.

A survey of 13, 000 of the website’s users showed that that they were more active on the site right at the beginning of the year.

Of the people surveyed, 71 per cent answered yes when asked ‘Do you think you’ll be active on Gleeden at the beginning of the year?’

As to the reason why, people responded it was because of the holidays and users were keen to ‘regain their freedom’ after all the festivities.

The director of communications for the website, Solene Paillet admitted that she wasn’t surprised by the rise in activity at the beginning of the year.

She said:

By registering with Gleeden or spending more time on the online platform, members are seeking a means to inject a little excitement into their everyday life.

Routine may weigh down on individuals, or be rather oppressive when it follows extended periods devoted to family life. This is the result of a legitimate human need: to have fun and think of oneself.

So if you think your partner might be planning on cheating on you in January, then they probably are.

This is really good to know – terrifying, but good…
