Where has Johnny Depp been? Aside from the odd Dior Sauvage ad on a bus stop, I’ve barely seen that guy around.
It turns out that the once Forbes Hollywood’s highest-paid actor is now in financial turmoil after blowing $880 million.
The Pirates of the Caribbean legend has had a huge fall from grace following a hefty load of bad press, resulting in him no longer pulling in the huge paycheques he used to.
Depp, 55, is locked into an ugly legal war with former manager Joel Mandel of The Management Group, claiming he mismanaged his finances leaving him with money woes.
TMG are countersuing saying Depp’s financial troubles have been caused by his lavish lifestyle which costs over $2 million a month to maintain.
In his lawsuit last year, Mandel said:
Depp, and Depp alone, is fully responsible for any financial turmoil he finds himself in today. He has refused to live within his means.
According to a new interview with Rolling Stone, Depp’s lifestyle has been lived to extreme excess, including buying a sofa from one of the Kardashian’s homes as well as racking up a monthly wine bill of $40,000.
First on the Depp’s huge list of expenses is homes, and a lot of them! Mandel claimed that the actor spent $75 million on maintaining his 14 residences, including a 45-acre chateau in the South of France, a chain of islands in the Bahamas, multiple houses in Hollywood, several penthouse lofts in LA, and a horse farm in Kentucky.
In addition to his endless list of properties, Depp loves to splash out on guitars. His love of music is well known after collaborations with Oasis, Sex Pistols and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, before joining The Hollywood Vampires in 2015. Along his musical journey, Depp has collected 70 guitars.
Carrying out the wishes of a dying man, Depp spent $3 million scattering the ashes of his good friend Hunter S. Thompson, firing them into the sky from a cannon.
According to Mandel, Depp also has an impressive 200-piece art collection with works by Andy Warhol, Basquiat, and Amedeo Modigliani.
Of course, Depp does not fly on planes with the rest of us, he loves going private and spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on it every month.
Mandel also alleged that Depp paid ‘hundreds of thousands of dollars to employ a full-time sound engineer, who Depp has used for years to feed him lines during film production’.
To go along with all of his abodes, Depp also bought 45 luxury vehicles, including a vintage 1940 Harley Davidson motorbike.
Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose wanted a sofa from the actual set of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. In very Veruca Salt manner, he spent $7,000 on the Kardashian cast-off.
Then there is the personal doctor he pays $1.2 million to per year to be at his every beck and call, as well as the $1.8 million on around-the-clock security for himself, and another $3 million per year on funding the 40-person staff he keeps.
Part of Depp’s lawsuit alleges that Mandel paid his sister Christi $7 million and assistant Nathan Holmes $750,000 without his knowledge.
All that income comes with a shed load of tax, which Depp alleges his representatives didn’t pay on time, resulting in a whopping $5.6 million in late fees to the IRS.
To think, I was just wondering if I could afford a KFC for lunch today.
