A mum found herself resembling the Wicked Witch of the West after accidentally using out of date fake tan.

Jenni Coleman, from Greater Manchester, left her mates in hysterics over the hilarious likeness to The Wizard of Oz’s famous witch, after she sent them a picture of her skin that had turned bright green overnight.

In fact, the transformation looked so realistic Jenni’s sister questioned whether she had been for a nose job after joking she looked like she’d been ‘taken over’ by a witch.

Mum-of-two Jenni’s mishap came after she whacked on a couple of layers of fake tan while enjoying a glass of wine. When applying the tan she noticed a slight green tint, but decided to ‘crack on’ anyway.

The kids were like ‘It does look a bit green mum,’ but I thought it would be alright. I normally buy fake tan from the high street and tanned a lot when I was younger so always had loads in.

That day I just grabbed one, maybe from the back [of my stash] and I’d had it a bit by then, which is why it went like that.

The next morning Jenni howled when she caught sight of herself in the bathroom mirror and realised she was bright green from head to toe.

Jenni recalled:

The tan was on my face, ears, hands and all over my body, the green made my eyes look really white.

The 35-year-old said she doesn’t actually know what caused the tanning disaster, but it’s likely she picked a bottle from the back of her fake tan stash that had been there longer than recommended.

Unsurprisingly, Jenni, who lives with daughters Leah, 17, and Emily, 14, was forced to stay at home and repeatedly shower using exfoliant in a desperate attempt to rid her new witch-like look.

‘I actually look like a witch [in that picture] it’s like I was taken over in the night,’ she said. ‘When I saw myself the following morning I nearly cried, it wasn’t great, I just couldn’t believe it.’

Jenni added:

It wasn’t patchy – I didn’t think it was ever going to come off.

I took a few days to properly come off, I hid away at home that weekend trying to scrub it off, it put me off tanning for a bit.

Jenni revealed the hilarious snap was actually taken four years ago, however it was recently shared on social media by her mates to give everyone a bit of a laugh.

She said:

I regularly fake tan, but I’m like Casper at the minute with everything going on. Having a tan makes you feel great – and slimmer.

I took the picture to send to my sister and for a while after that I was a bit paranoid that it would happen again. It didn’t turn green straight away, if it had I would have washed it off straight away.

It was a big shock, I remember thinking ‘how has it even gone like that?. People have commented on the photo a lot over the years, they say I’m ‘the green gift that keeps on giving’ and won’t let it lie.

There’s certainly a lesson to be learned for us all there.
