I’ve heard of numerous things you can do with a vibrator, but I’ve never heard someone say they’re capable of clearing congestion in your chest.

One canny mother came up with the unconventional method after her baby was suffering, and was looking for a way to ease the symptoms. Now, parents are following in suit.

The Facebook page ‘Melons and Cuties’, shared an image of the poorly young girl lying on her front, as her mum holds the device – used for sexual stimulation – on her back.

Accompanying the image, the first part of the caption read:

Our customer shares her remedy for chest congestion!! Use on baby’s back while sitting in a steamy bathroom. Brilliant!!!

At the time of writing (January 12), the post has been shared over 7,000 times, and has over 10,000 comments, mainly from people who are seriously impressed by the hack – as well as those who found it amusing!

Having a sick child can be hellish. Within reason I say whatever works.

A fellow-mum found no problem with it and commented:

Just because something has a sexual purpose some of the time does not mean that’s the only thing it’s good for. This logic also applies to people.

Although some of you might find this method a bit odd, it’s actually not that unusual. Medics are said to often use vibrations to help clear airways – although not with a sex toy.

Melons and Cuties made numerous comments on the post too, with one stating:

Thank you all for keeping the comments supportive (mostly). It’s good to see moms encouraged to use things readily available to help with wellness and not be shamed for it!

In the meantime, one professor, according to the Daily Mail, claims chocolate is actually better for easing a cough than syrup.

Professor Alyn Morice, head of cardiovascular and respiratory studies at the University of Hull, and a founding member of the International Society for the Study of Cough, says ‘chocolate can calm coughs’.

He also claims the ‘evidence is actually as solid as a bar of Fruit and Nut’.

Professor Morice writes:

We have just seen the results of the largest real-world study of an over-the-counter cough remedy ever undertaken in Europe.

This proves that a new medicine which contains cocoa is better than a standard linctus.

The study involved head-to-head comparisons of 163 patients, who reported a ‘significant improvement’ in their symptoms within two days of taking the chocolate-based medicine.

I don’t know about you but my nan always told me to have small pieces of plain chocolate whenever my throat or chest was bad.

Looks like she was right!
