Lil Nas X Decides He's 'No Longer Gay' After Grammys Disappointment

Lil Nas X has taken losing out at the Grammys in his stride, joking that following his snub he's 'no longer gay'.

The rapper was nominated in five categories, including Album of the Year, but walked away empty-handed, leading him to joke that he'd had more success at the Grammys with songs released before he came out of the closet.

'Can't believe i lost all my grammys. i am now no longer gay!' he tweeted, after realising all five categories had been announced without his name being called.

Lil Nas X famously walked away with two Grammys for his viral smash Old Town Road in 2020, before he had come out as gay.

This time around, he was nominated for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Melodic Rap Performance, and Best Music Video, for his debut album, Montero, and the single of the same name, but lost out each time.

During the ceremony, the rapper kept his fans updated from inside the venue, pausing midway through the show to share some images of himself on the red carpet, with the caption 'lost all my [grammys] so far. let's celebrate that!'

The rapper did manage to get on stage once during the night, performing a medley of hits from his album including Dead Right Now, Montero (Call Me by Your Name) and Industry Baby.

In a typically elaborate show, Lil Nas X showed off three costume changes, performing in front of a giant screen featuring hate tweets reacting to his controversial Montero video, as well as a giant statue of his own face.

He also went on to tweet photos of himself alongside all of his famous friends, including Lady Gaga, Doja Cat, Jack Harlow and SZA, declaring himself the 'personal care taker' of the latter as he wheeled her around the ceremony in a wheelchair.

Just a few minutes after disavowing his sexuality, Lil Nas X revealed he'd had a change of heart, tweeting: 'i change my mind i want to be slutted out tonight,' before ending the night in his hotel bathroom, singing: "I didn't win no Grammys, that s*** make me cry, zero for five Grammys, that s*** make me cry."
