Billie Eilish confused after reaction to her coming out

The songstress thought it was 'obvious'

Billie Eilish is typically quite candid about many aspects of her life, and recently addressed her sexuality.

Over the last few years, the 21-year-old has become more open with her womanhood and hasn't been afraid to call out those who troll her for her body shape and what she chooses to wear.

And now, she's decided to open up about her sexuality.

Speaking to Variety, Eilish revealed her queer identity, saying: "I've never really felt like I could relate to girls very well. I love them so much. I love them as people. I'm attracted to them as people. I'm attracted to them for real."

Eilish went on to say that she's 'physically attracted to women', but that she's also 'so intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence'.

The news came as a surprise to some as, publicly, the 'Ocean Eyes' hitmaker has only been linked to men.

Eilish's most recent relationship was with Neighbourhood singer Jesse Rutherford, who is 11 years her senior.

The singer hasn't officially commented on why they ended their romance, but in an Instagram Q&A with fans over the summer, she confirmed that she was single.

Now, as the dust begins to settle on what some believe to be a bombshell revelation about Eilish's sexuality in her Variety interview, she's now addressed people's initial shock to the news.

"I kind of thought, wasn't it obvious? I didn't realize people didn't know," she said at Variety's hitmakers event yesterday (December 2).

In regards to reports of her 'coming out', the 'Your Power' singer added: "I just don't really believe in it.

"I'm just like, why can't we just exist? I've been doing this for a long time, and I just didn't talk about it."

While Eilish's split from Rutherford was said to be 'amicable', it's since been reported that the 32-year-old could be writing 'disturbing' song lyrics about his former flame.

In recent months, Rutherford release the track 'POV' which some people questioned was about Eilish.

Some of the lyrics go: "Feel like Alejandro when she Gaga on my goo, I'm at the top, you're at the bottom, It's a different POV.

"Polo socks, in my Docs and the top is CDG. Got a watch on my shoulder, heart up on my sleeve. And they told me it was over, I'ma disagree.

"She been listening to me since 2013, I know she's got daddy issues, welcome to the family. She said: 'Jesse, baby, won't you write a song about me?'"

A number of listeners who assumed the song was about Eilish took against the 'she been listening to me since 2013' line.

Atlantic Records was contacted for comment at the time.
