Only female artists nominated for Artist Of The Year at VMAs for the first time ever

The nominations for the MTV VMAs 2023 have been announced and artists including Beyoncé and Taylor Swift have been shortlisted

For the first time ever, all of the artists nominated for Artist of the Year at the 2023 MTV VMAs are women.

The nominees for the 40th edition of the iconic award ceremony include Beyoncé - who actually hasn’t released any music videos for her latest album Renaissance - Taylor Swift, Doja Cat, Shakira, Nicki Minaj and KAROL G.

Full list of nominations below

All five women will be battling it out next month for the highly-coveted Moonperson award in what is perhaps one of the most impressive lineups the awards ceremony has ever seen.

In addition to Artist of the Year, VMAs favourite Taylor is also up for Video of the Year for her single ‘Anti-Hero’. It’s also competing for Song of the Year, Best Pop Video, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Visual Effects.

Taylor already holds the record for the most Video of the Year wins, with three for her songs ‘Bad Blood’, ‘You Need to Calm Down’ and ‘All Too Well: The Short Film’. A win for ‘Anti-Hero’ would extend her record to four.

Doja Cat's 'Attention' music video has received acclaim.
