Pink changes lyric about Britney Spears during concert to show support to the pop star

Pink says she feels very 'protective' of Spears amid her divorce news.

Pink has showed her support to Britney Spears by changing a lyric about the pop star while she was performing on stage.

The 43-year-old was performing at Comerica Park, in Detroit, as part of her Summer Carnival tour, when she subtly changed the lyrics to 'Don't Let Me Get Me'.

The original lyric was: "Tired of being compared to damn Britney Spears / She's so pretty / That just ain't me."

The singer changed the word 'damn' to 'sweet' and the crowd cheering in response.

In February, Pink said she felt 'protective' of Spears.

"People think I was picking on Britney on [my 2001 single] 'Don't Let Me Get Me,' but I've always felt like a big sister to her," Pink told PEOPLE.

She continued: "I'm very protective of her, and she's the sweetest person in the world.

"I wish her well. I cover her in light all day long."

The pop singers became friends in 2004 when they starred in Pepsi's Super Bowl commercial with Beyoncé.

"What a weird deal that was. What the hell? Like, 'What are we doing?' " Pink said to PEOPLE.

"Also, you're Pepsi. You're flying us to Rome to shoot in a fake Colosseum down the street from the real Colosseum.

"Why are we here? We could have gone to Canada.

"I don't understand. That's Pepsi money.

"For a while, everything I saw that was really fancy, I was like, 'That's Pepsi money.' It was bizarre."

In 2021, Pink admitted she wished she had reached out to Spears more during their early careers.

"I felt sad that back then like I didn't know, back in the day, in the early days, I didn't know. Like I could've reached out more," she said on Watch What Happens Live.

She added: "I don't like feeling helpless and, or powerless and I can only imagine how she feels and she could've used some support.

"I wish I could've reached out and gave her a hug."

Sam Asghari, Spears' husband of one year, filed for divorce this week.

Asghari posted a message to his Instagram followers on Thursday afternoon saying that he and Spears decided to 'end their journey together' after six years of 'love and commitment'.

"We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always," Asghari wrote.

"S**t happens.

"Asking for privacy seems rediculous [sic] so I will just ask for everyone including the media to be kind and thoughtful."
