Jenna Ortega praised for pronouncing Rihanna's name and 'correcting 95% of us'

Rihanna herself has confirmed Jenna is correct

There really isn’t much not to love about Jenna Ortega.

Smashing onto the scene with hit after hit like Wednesday, joining – and then leaving – the Scream franchise, and now fronting Beetlejuice 2, there’s a lot Jenna Ortega does right.

One of those things is the pronunciation of music icon Rihanna, whose name apparently everyone has been getting wrong – except Ortega that is.

At the 2023 Golden Globes, Ortega was presenting the award for Best Song in a Motion Picture.

Rihanna, who hasn’t realised new music in what feels like forever, was nominated for her song Lift Me Up, which featured in Marvel’s Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever.

“I’m gonna get to original song in a minute, we got artists like Taylor Swift and Rihanna competing for that award,” she said.

“I know, I’m very excited.”

And as per usual, something most people wouldn't notice was picked up on by eagled eyed TikToker @sugeneshin_, noticed that Ortega had pronounced Rihanna's name differently to how they thought it was pronounced - and took to the video sharing platform to discuss.

Not only did they admit they had been pronouncing RiRi’s name wrong the whole time, but it turns out they weren’t alone as people in the comments confessed to doing the same thing.

But how do we know Ortega isn’t the one pronouncing it wrong?

Well, we know Ortega’s pronunciation was on the money because Fenty Beauty, Rhianna’s make up brand, commented on the post saying: “Miss Wednesday understood the assignment.”

Plus, the queen herself also confirmed that the way Ortega said it is, in fact, the right way, telling Showbiz Tonight that 'Ree-an-nah' is right.

Others were shocked they had been saying it wrong the whole time, with one person commenting: "I've been pronouncing it wrong my whole life?!??"

While another said: "Dang...so I've been saying her name wrong my whole life?!! I feel embarrassed now. I had NO idea that was how you correctly pronounce her name!"

And a third added: "Now everyone is gonna pronounce the way she said rihannas name after seeing this video."

Meanwhile a fourth commented: "Damn i always said ree-aw-nuh not ree-ah-nuh."

Others were adamant they had been saying it correctly the whole time, while a few people pointed out that, depending on where you live in the world, it's often pronounced differently.

Many Brits commented to say they already pronounced Rihanna's name the correct way, with a fifth adding: "In the uk we pronounce it the same as Jenna."

And a second added: "Pov everyone in britian [sic] already saying it right."

For those who don’t know Rhianna’s first name is actually Robyn – so, do with that what you will.
