Stampede Of Festival Goers Rush VIP Section During Rapper's Set

Playboi Carti was performing at The Smokers Club Festival in California when the situation unfolded

This is the moment a stampede of festival-goers rushed the VIP section during a rapper’s set.

Playboi Carti was performing at The Smokers Club Festival in California on Saturday, 30 April, when the situation unfolded.

In the clip shared on Twitter, a crowd of people can be seen scrambling around the corner and through the barricades as a team of security guards attempt to control the situation. You can watch the footage below:

Despite the ratio being in favour of the stampede, the guards manage to prevent them from getting into the cordoned-off area of the Glen Helen Amphitheater.

The footage then cuts to the stage as Playboi Carti performs his 2020 hit 'Rockstar Made' to the main audience.

As reported by the NY Post, it’s unclear whether there were any injuries or arrests.

But the drama was far from over, as shortly afterwards the rapper’s set was cut short just a couple of tracks in, as shown in a separate video shared on Instagram.

In the clip, the music comes to a halt as a man walks on the stage with a mic, saying: “Attention, we have a safety issue going on.”

However, it seems this may not be due to the VIP incident, as the announcer goes on to instruct the section of crowd standing behind a railing to ‘take a step back’.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please help us with this safety issue,” he adds. “Once we can get this squared away we will restart this show.”

Numerous people have taken to the comments section to share their thoughts on the situation, with one writing: “We only got to hear rockstar made before they cut carti set for 40min for nothing ‘safety reason’.”

Another commented on the VIP rush, writing: “If they set it up the way most festivals set up VIP, this wouldn’t have been an issue IMO… s**t was wack Fyre Festival vibes.”

But others were impressed with the way the security team handled the crowd, writing: “Better security than the White House.”

Some people were impressed with how the security team handled the rush.

One commenter asked whether the stampede was the reason Carti’s set was cut short, to which someone explained: “Nah it was cause of someone breaking the barriers way back in GA.”

Playboi Carti, real name Jordan Terrell Carter, is yet to respond to the incident.
