A Simpsons Movie Sequel And Family Guy Film Are ‘In Development’

It’s difficult to believe The Simpsons Movie was over a decade ago.

Now the most famous yellow family in Springfield are finally returning to the silver screen, with a long awaited movie sequel.

And they’re not alone, as Quahog, Rhode Island’s most famous family, the Griffins will be hitting the big screen in a Family Guy movie.

According to The Wall Street Journal:

[20th Century Fox CEO Stacey Snider] Snider has emphasized a revamp of Fox’s approach to animation, bringing in a new partner to replace an expired deal with DreamWorks Animation after it was acquired by Comcast Corp.

The film studio is partnering with the Fox television studio on a big-screen adaptation of the animated series Bob’s Burgers, a second Simpsons movie in development, and a Family Guy film that would mix animation with live action, said people with knowledge of the projects.

The Simpsons Movie was a mega hit the first time around, raking in more than $520 million at the box office alone.

However, despite this success, audience reaction was mixed and the team have been cautious about throwing themselves into a sequel.

The Simpsons animator David Silverman has previously spoken about the strain of working on both a feature film and the TV series.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly back in 2017, Silverman said:

I’d love for there to be another one [sequel],

We’re still a ways away from it. We talk about this and that. We’re thinking it over, but nothing’s happening just yet.…. It’s still daunting because it really knocked the stuffing out of us to do the movie and the show at the same time.

Writer Al Jean added:

I certainly am cautious about a couple things.

I wouldn’t want it to be risky in terms of budget, and I would not want it to be anything that we did purely for the money.

I would want it to be a really great movie. I personally feel no need for another one unless it’s great.

It’s been a long time coming, but fans can surely rest assured the team will put as much effort into this sequel as Lisa would when cramming for a school test.

We cannot wait!
