Actors Whose Careers Were Ruined By One Role

Everybody fucks up – there’s no ifs or buts about that, but normally those fuck ups don’t ruin your career eternally.

Unfortunately for those in the world of film one movie flop can utterly destroy everything you’ve worked for and everything you were working towards and these seven actors are all perfect example of the perpetual fuck up.

Thankfully, the good guys over at Looper were able to put all seven of them into a short clip for all of us to watch and cringe at at the same time.

We won’t spoil the whole thing for you but number one is certainly a bit of a shocker as Looper reveal that The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was enough of a box-office flop to put Sean Connery out of work eternally. But then again, I doubt he’s struggling to pay his gas bills…

Another fitting example is Kevin Costner who was once one of the biggest names in film after stunning performances in The Untouchables and The Field of Dreams.

Now it’s no lie that Costner is still quite the household name but it’s also not a lie that he hasn’t had a leading role in a big film in quite some time.

Why’s that, I hear you ask? Well most likely because of the gargantuan flop that was Waterworld. One of the most expensive films of all time and one of the most slated too.

Finally, and my own personal favourite from the list is Halle Berry whose film Catwoman actually led to one paper urging her to give back her Oscar.

Ever since Catwoman, as Looper put it, Halle ‘has all but disappeared from leading roles’.

Moral of the story – you are not invincible. No matter how big of a star you are one minute, you could be a nobody the next.
