Stan Lee lived a full and fascinating life, never losing his creative drive or love of the world of comic books.
His enthusiasm for the Marvel universe was contagious; inspiring generations with his imaginative, compelling characters.
And unlike many others, Stan never longed for a well deserved rest; swapping film sets for beaches and golfing resorts.
Up until the age of 95, Stan was still keeping busy as an active and visible member of the Marvel family.
Fans will no doubt recall his famous and often amusing cameos in Marvel movies, which were always enjoyable to look out for.
A beloved figure within Marvel’s dedicated fanbase, Stan also only stopped appearing at conventions and public signings as of August 2018.
But what was the secret behind his lengthy career? And why was he never tempted by the thought of a comfortable retirement away from the stresses and pressures of the entertainment industry?
Speaking back in 2016, Stan told The Hollywood Reporter:
When you retire, you have a chance to do all the things you’ve always wanted to do.
I’ve been doing all the things I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve always wanted to be involved in entertaining people.
In 2016, Stan Lee explained why he would never retire.

Stan’s commitment to his work shone through everything he worked on, helping to make the world of Marvel so very special.
Stan had previously reflected on the powerful influence of his work, and of entertainment as an industry, once confessing to The Washington Post:
I used to be embarrassed because I was just a comic book writer while other people were building bridges or going on to medical careers.
And then I began to realize: entertainment is one of the most important things in people’s lives. Without it, they might go off the deep end. I feel that if you’re able to entertain, you’re doing a good thing.
Thank you Stan Lee for making people who feel different realize they are special.

Stan’s passion and positivity will no doubt live on in the actors and writers who too have fallen in love with the galaxy of superheroes envisioned by the irreplaceable Stan.
It’s true what they say. Find what you love doing and you’ll never work a day in your life.
Sad to learn of the passing of @MarvelEnter founder Stan Lee. The @GratefulDead enjoyed a relationship w/Marvel over the years thanks in part to @jerrygarcia's love of comic books. In 1995 we did a series of their characters on our passes. May the four winds blow him safely home. pic.twitter.com/HXCiKYBYMI
