Darth Maul was one of the only good things to come from The Phantom Menace. In all of the trade dispute fun, the evil Sith apprentice didn’t actually get to do very much at all. Fortunately, a new fan film gives us a hefty dose of Maul, and it’s pretty amazing.
Darth Maul: Apprentice – A Star Wars Film was put together by T7 Production and showcases what we loved about Darth Maul in the first place – namely a fuck load of awesome dual lightsaber action.
The production values on show are absolutely incredible, and Maul himself looks pretty much exactly as he did back in Phantom Menace. The short comes to about 18 minutes in total, but it’s worth every second of your time if you’re a fan of Star Wars – or even just brilliantly put together action sequences.
The filmmakers said in a statement:
We worked incredibly hard on this film for almost two years. We always felt that Darth Maul should have had more screen time. So we wanted to create a film just for him with the best lightsaber fights we could do!
There’s certainly no shortage of fight scenes. I won’t talk about what happens in the video, but needless to say, Darth Maul takes on a shit load of Jedi and it’s super fucking cool. Check it out below.
Maybe one of the next Star Wars spin-off films can give us a feature length Darth Maul adventure? It’s just a shame that ever since Phantom Menace, he’s been half the man he used to be.
