Amber Heard Denies Johnny Depp Got Her The Part In Aquaman

The star took the stand for her first full day under cross-examination by Johnny Depp's legal team

Amber Heard has denied the implication that Johnny Depp got her the part as Mera in DC’s Aquaman as she faces her second day under cross-examination.

Depp is currently suing the 36-year-old star in a highly publicised defamation trial relating to a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in which she insinuated he abused her during their relationship.

During Depp’s testimony last month, he was asked about a text exchange in which he questioned why Heard had to cancel their plans.

The line of questioning sought to suggest the Pirates of the Caribbean star was angry about Heard taking a meeting for a film, but he said in response: "It’s not about her doing films. How do you think she got Aquaman, sir?"

However, Heard appeared to refute the idea that Depp got her the part in the blockbuster movie while taking the stand in court today, May 17.

The conversation arose after Depp’s attorney Camille Vasquez, who has received high praise on social media from the growing number of Depp supporters, played an audio recording of a previous argument between the former couple.

During the exchange, Heard appears to laugh over Depp as he attempts to speak before repeatedly calling him a ‘sellout’ and a ‘joke’, ending with the 58-year-old actor telling his former ex-wife that her ‘jealousy is tragic’.

After the tape was played in court, Vasquez brought up the name-calling, to which Heard said: “I called him horrible, ugly things, as you can hear. We spoke to each other in a really horrible way.”

“Pretty sure we just heard you speak to him in a really horrible way, you called him a sellout, right Ms Heard?” responded Vasquez, later adding: “You called him a joke on that recording. You called him a washed up piece of s**t.”

Heard repeated, “I called him a lot of ugly things.”

Vasquez then discussed the film role, asking Heard: “Mr Depp got you that role in Aquaman, didn’t he?”

“Excuse me?” she replied, leading Vasquez to repeat the question.

“No, Ms Vasquez, I got that role by auditioning,” declared Heard.

The latest statement joins a series of standout moments from the ongoing trial at Fairfax County Courthouse in Virginia, including yesterday’s testimony of Heard's apparent shock over Depp claiming to be a victim of domestic violence.

A separate audio clip of an argument between Heard and Depp was played to the jury, where the Aquaman star could be heard saying the world would never believe he was a victim of domestic abuse.

On the witness stand, Heard said: "I found it hard to believe that he could or that he would do that, considering the relationship he and I had. I thought it would be crazy for him to do so."
