An army veteran who was under investigation for shooting her therapy dog has reportedly committed suicide.
North Carolina police are investigating the death of 23-year-old Marinna Rollins.
Whilst local police are refusing to release any information, it is reported that they were called to her apartment at 3am on Sunday May 8.
Rollins and her partner Jarren Heng were charged last month with cruelty to animals after they tied the dog to the tree and shot it with a rifle.
In the video of the incident, the two can be heard cackling and laughing.
Rollins was granted medical retirement from the US Army in January, and is thought to have suffered from severe PTSD.
The dog was adopted by her “estranged” husband Matt Dyer, who was then deployed to South Korea.
She then had the dog registered as her “emotional support dog.”
The death of the dog is said to have taken place around April 16, where the pair took the dog to a wooded area.
They then proceeded to take turns shooting the dog, before burying it in a shallow grave.
Rollins can be heard declaring her love for the dog in the video.
Rollins and Heng were both set to appear in court on May 16, with protests due to take place outside the courthouse.
